Bokamoso Youth Foundation: The Future Begins Here

Young People Are the Bokamoso

Meet Our Students

“Say NO, black woman, say NO”

So begins Margaret Ndlovu's poem on the fears, challenges and triumphs of what it means to be a young black woman in South Africa today.

Each day Bokamoso students face staggering obstacles as a result of poverty and an AIDS epidemic that impacts a quarter of the population in Winterveldt either directly or through a family member.

Yet, students like Margaret, Oscar, Sipho, Fikile, Stephina and Pearl are able to turn challenges into inspiring, uplifting performances. Theirs are stories of hope and courage, and we hope you'll take a moment to get to know them.

Despite the Washington DC region's historic snowfall in 2010, Bokamoso youth
had spirit to spare while performing at St. Andrew's Episcopal School.
