Lerato Moraka , Youth Mentor, Bokamoso Youth CentreLerato is currently a Youth Mentor at the Bokamoso Youth Centre. She was born in Ga-Rankuwa and raised in Winterveldt where she now lives with her Mom, her younger sister, and brother. Her Dad passed away in 2008.
Lerato completed her matric at Winterveldt High School in 2000. In 2003 she joined Bokamoso and enrolled in the Adult Preparation Program (ADP) which focused on building and strengthening her life skills.
In 2004 Bokamoso selected Lerato to take courses in Integrated Community Youth Work and Project Management at Technikon where she received her National Diploma. She also studied First Aid – Level1.
As a Youth Mentor she co-facilitates ADP classes, specifically those related to health issues, sexually transmitted diseases, sexual behavior and HIV and AIDS. Once a week, in ADP, the youth split up into male and female groups to discuss social and personal issues affecting young people in Winterveldt. Lerato leads the Lady-Lady sessions, and encourage the young women to share their experiences and feelings, to learn from one another, and to apply what they learn to help solve personal, family or peer problems.
In addition to her ADP responsibilities, she also assist in counseling Bokamoso youth on an individual basis, she manages the lunch program, and keeps track of expense receipts.
