Together We Can Create a Brighter Bokamoso
Meet Alicia Armstrong
My family had a chance to sponsor a Bokomosa student, Phinias, in 2006 and 2007.
The Bokomosa students come from a very poor area near Pretoria where the unemployment rate is 40% and 25% of the local population is HIV positive.
Phinias has been a real Godsend to our family and we have offered to sponsor him as an exchange student and he has been accepted at Montgomery County Community College.
St. Andrew's hosts students each January and supports their efforts to raise funds for their youth program. My son and I also invite the members of his youth group, Potomac Valley Jack and Jill, to their performance at George Washington University.
Last March my son traveled to South Africa where he participated in volunteer activities with the homeless and AIDS orphans.
And I had a chance to visit South Africa during an International Medical Conference and I was shocked and saddened by the devastation caused by the AIDS virus.
Being able to give back through the Bokomosa group is my way of trying to combat the effects of this horrible disease. I think all these experiences have helped me and my son grow as individuals and helped us to become a more responsible world citizens.
